Race splits: World Cup Sprint Otepää 2010

Posted by Jan Kocbach, 17 Jan 2010@14:00

The Cross Country sprint is all about saving your power throughout the heats. You have got to use just enough power to get on to the next heat. It is therefore interesting to take a look at the times for each heat and sum them up to see if it is possible to see any patterns.

Below the times of all competitors are shown for final, semifinal, quarterfinal and qualifier. In the last column the times are summed.

Short analysis

In the mens class, it is interesting to see that the overall winner Emil Jönnson actually has the best time also when summing the times for all four races – followed by Ola Vigen Hattestad and Nikita Kriukov – excactly as in the final results.

In the womens class Aino Kaisa Saarinen (finishing 3rd overall) has the best time when summing the times over all four races – ahead of the winner Hanna Falk and the second placed Petra Majdic. This is not surprising as Saarinen has her weakness in the last 100-150 meters, and thus always races maximum from the start. Note also that Saarinen was faster in her semifinal than in her final.
